I had two mismatched filing cabinets.
I hate things that don't match.
Those kinds of things didn't use to bother me but now they do. SO I bought black sheets at Walmart for 4 dollars. I cut them, ironed them, and hot-glued (shhhhh) them on the filing cabinets.
I used zebra duct tape to create borders.
I would love to say that I came up with this idea, but it was my teaching partner's (and she claims NOT to be crafty :)
I now have a PERFECT space for my kids to do the Word Work portion of Daily Five.

Oh this is fantastic! I purchased black fabric years ago for my bulletin boards. Having black backgrounds always made the students work "pop"! The state fire marshall came thru and said we could only cover 20% of our walls with the fabric. Ouch!!!! I never knew what to do with all the black and hated to just throw it away....but that has certainly changed. THANKS for the tip!
