Freebie and **Giveaway** Reminder - Queen of the First Grade Jungle

Freebie and **Giveaway** Reminder

Although I am teaching a lot of things I love right now, I feel a little overwhelmed. I have SO much that I want to do with my kids that I am scared I won't be able to fit it all in to our packed days! When I am stressed, my favorite place to be is behind my small group/kidney/horseshoe table.  I LOVE having the opportunity to do most of my instruction in small group.  Since adding math work stations this year, I have truly fallen in love with math and what my first graders are capable of- especially their thinking.  That is why I created my Money packet.
I know our standards don't talk about money at all, but the first grade teachers in our district felt very strongly that if our students have a strong foundation in place value and skip counting, that counting money is the next logical step. In addition, money is already a part of our calendar time and daily morning work that I got from the fabulous *Reagan* so our students have just eaten up the challenge!

I have been using my word problems from my unit during my small group math time.
Here are my kiddos hard at work!
My students had earned the reward of having a stuffed animal at school. They were very creative in having their "friends" travel the room with them :) I used these word problems as an opportunity to introduce a few other high level thinking math concepts as well!
If you would like to sample my word problems you can click on the picture  below to download 4 of them!
Here is also a couple of screen shots from the rest of the packet.

If you haven't entered my giveaway, you really should head over and check it out. I am going to **giveaway** 3 sets of my unit!
On that note, I really, really need to work on report cards...or I could procrastinate a little more by going on a run!  Enjoy the rest of your day!

  1. If where you live is as pretty as where I am, you should definitely go for a run. I just got back from one and it was a great way to clear my head. Thanks for the freebies. You got the wheels turning in my brain. I'm really interested in doing math stations. Hopefully next year.
