Prayers

I come to my blogging friends because I know you all can say the words that I need to hear right now. One of my students was involved in a terrible car accident today. He is on Life Support right now with little chance of survival. His sister was killed and his other two siblings were severely injured. I spent the day in the hospital with his family and feel so much pain-I cannot imagine what his mother is going through. Please, please pray for their family. I know you all will understand when I say I feel like I am losing one of my own children.

Reflecting with Leo the Late Bloomer

Okay... I have to be honest... I am worse than my kids. I soooooo have one foot out the door. I just can't wait to spend summer evenings in the backyard and not have to worry about my toddlers' bedtimes! Luckily, we are working on our class play and that is a wonderful distraction! I also wanted to have my students complete their reflective letter a little bit differently this year. We always read Leo the Late Bloomer at the beginning of the year (best oldie, but goodie I have up my sleeve!). I have parents who have written me letters saying that they are so excited to see their children "bloom" by the end of the year. How amazing is it how much First Graders grow!?! I thought we would wrap it up all nice and pretty this year by bringing it full circle. We are going to revisit Leo and then reflect upon how we have grown this year. The first sheet is meant to help them brainstorm ideas and the second paper is for a letter they are going to write to their second grade teacher about their growth (thanks for the idea Cathy :)!)

Enjoy! Please, please, please leave a copy if you download! Thanks!

Homophones and Idioms

Oh my goodness! I have been soooo lost without being able to get on blogger. I have not been able to access my dashboard for over a week now!!!! AHHH! This has been me...without blogs...

Okay, okay not that bad, but still...

We just finished MAP testing and contrary to what my students think, no- I won't be kicking my feet up and relaxing for the last 3 weeks! We will be having some fun though! I think homophones and idioms will keep them interested! Don't you?

I got the pair of pears idea from Sarah at First Grader At Last

I hope you all enjoy, because I know my kids are just LOVING this unit. Sorry for the short post, but I have GOT to get to watching Idol!

Max helps us infer

Don't you love when you combine what you love with what you have to do?? (I think most of us do that everyday by showing up to work :)!)

One of my absolute favorite childhood books is Where the Wild Things Are.

To finish up our unit for inferring this week, we decided to read the classic and see what our kids can do on their own.

Hope everyone will take about 2 1/2 minutes to enjoy the Kentucky Derby this weekend! Oh yeah, Happy Mother's Day to all!!!

Inferring

Okay... I lied! I said I would be starting a giveaway today, but honestly- I'm not ready! So here is a little something to hold you over. We are starting inferring this week. Although we have talked about it throughout the year, we are really hitting it this week. Here are some literacy centers to be completed independently:

We got some FANTASTIC ideas from Babbling Abby's unit Here! I don't know how she comes up with these amazing ideas! I can't wait to see how it goes!
